Netflix knocks HBO off its throne, as Emmy voters spread the wealth

As well as picking up nominations in many technical categories, Game of Thrones' acting talents have also been acknowledged with Lena Headey, who plays Cersei Lannister, shortlisted for Supporting Actress in a Drama Serious.

Moss was nominated for best actress in a drama series for The Handmaid's Tale, with Strahovski's nomination coming in the supporting actress category.

Netflix's 112 nominations took away the front-runner title that HBO held since 2001, giving cable and broadcast networks more reason to fear their future with viewers as well as honours. Though Graham didn't earn an Emmy bid for the long-running HBO series, the show is nevertheless up for Best Comedy Series, Best Comedy Actor (Larry David) and twice for Best Comedy Guest Actor (Lin-Manuel Miranda and Bryan Cranston).

Some of music's biggest names including Donald Glover, John Legend, and Bruno Mars are among the nominees for the 70th annual Primetime Emmy Awards.

Comedy series: Atlanta; Barry; Black-ish; Curb Your Enthusiasm; GLOW; The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel; Silicon Valley; and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

One show that stars a pair of local natives and has been nominated in the past was shut out in every major category. Hulu's "The Handmaid's Tale" comes in second with 20 nominations.

HBO's fantasy dragons-and-swords saga is a two-time best drama victor that sat out the last year's awards because of its production schedule.
