Pence: 'I do' still want Roe v. Wade to be overturned

Just before Trump announced his nominee for the US Supreme Court Monday night, Cuomo unveiled a new campaign calling on the State Senate to codify Roe v. Wade into ny law, "or be voted out of office".

Kathleen Gallagher, the director of pro-life activities for the New York State Catholic Conference, a key opponent, said that the governor's proposal would make late-term abortion available "for nearly any reason", would let health providers other than doctors perform abortions and would eliminate the crime of an "unwanted abortional act".

"Mark my words, they are moving to roll back Roe v. Wade, that is going to be the next move by this President", Cuomo said.

The decision had far-reaching implications, changing the medical landscape of the United States immediately, said Heather Shumaker, senior counsel for the National Women's Law Center. By your understanding, what were the legal principles that guided him in that case?

"This is really a non-issue in NY, but the governor has been acting like a chicken without a head, yelling, 'The sky is falling!", Michael Long, veteran chairman of the state Conservative Party, told CNHI. Many years after Roe v. Wade, you wrote in your memoir that as a young woman, you had an abortion.

That decision "was really saying the regulation has to actually confer a benefit and that benefit has to outweigh a burden that was created by the regulation", she explained.

New Mexico has not passed any new legislation related to abortion in almost 20 years. One law in Iowa would, if implemented, become the most restrictive abortion law in the country, banning abortions after the first six weeks of pregnancy. So they started out doing counseling about contraception, how to prevent pregnancy.

Pro abortion-rights groups are particularly concerned by one Kavanaugh's previous rulings. And one of the women said, "You know, Sarah, the only way we can really deal with this is to bring a lawsuit and try to get the law overturned". However, despite my libertine bent (I believe all vices should be legal, as it is the bedrock of liberty promised by our little document and a key part of this human experiment called America) I feel for this argument.

Unlike many states, New Mexico has no major types of abortion restrictions, such as waiting periods or mandated parental involvement.

Kennedy voted to uphold Roe v. Wade, and was the decisive vote in cases involving civil rights and affirmative action. A survey conducted in April by the Siena College poll determined that 78 percent of enrolled Democrats would prefer having Roe v. Wade put into state law. He's going to have all he can handle to handle current cases that come before the court.

Kavanaugh, left, President Trump's nominee for the Supreme Court, and Vice President Pence at the Capitol on Tuesday.

And that might not be far off, Shumaker said, adding that "there are quite a few cases in the pipeline already". An appeals court recently shot down the lawsuit, but the insurers are expected to file for a re-hearing in a case with implications for more than $12 billion in federal payments. That's why it is so important right now to have people understand what is at stake for this nominee to this Supreme Court at this time in our nation's history.
