The Crown: First Look of Olivia Colman as the Queen unveiled

Well, the first pictures of Coleman in the role have now been released and we think she looks just the part.

In the image released, Colman is seen drinking a cup of tea lost in deep thought as she channels her inner Queen.

The Crown also revealed Helena Bonham Carter will now play Princess Margaret, who was previously portrayed by Vanessa Kirby.

The official Twitter page for The Crown shared the image to fans' delight on Monday, simply captioned: "Patience". Whilst again, grabbing itself 13 Emmy nominations last week, the series looks certain to go from strength to strength.

Olivia replaces the utterly brilliant Claire Foy as Lizzie, a role which bagged her a Golden Globe for the Netflix series in 2017.

Season 2 ended with Foy's Queen giving birth to her fourth and final child, Prince Edward, in 1964.

The Crown season 3 is expected to air on Netflix later this year. Through the chronological sequence of biographical historical series in the third season she was replaced by Olivia Colman.

The first series of the show was mired in controversy after the show's producers admitted that Foy was paid less than Matt Smith, who played her husband the Duke of Edinburgh.

The third is thought to focus on the 1970s, and will introduce Camilla Parker Bowles to the cast, after her first meeting with Prince Charles in 1971. Filming for season three is well underway and Colman is set to play this iconic role for the current filming season and season four.

If it follows the trends of previous seasons, we can expect it in either November or December this year, but the BBC has reported it's likely to be pushed back to early 2019.
