Salah drew a foul from Aaron Wan-Bissaka that saw the young right-back dismissed before the Egypt star sent Sadio Mane clear to wrap up the points in injury time.

It wasn't a devastating, swashbuckling performance from the Reds, however, winning these games by showing grit and determination was something we haven't witnessed much from them.

Set to come up against some familiar faces when they visit Selhurst Park later today, Liverpool will look to make it two wins out of two outings as their Premier League campaign gets back under way in the Capital as the Reds square up with Crystal Palace. "We knew before the game it would be", Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk said.

After rattling the crossbar with a long-range shot in the first half, Andros Townsend struggled to find an end product in the second half with Andrew Robertson enjoying another excellent match.

"I'm frustrated because I don't think that's a penalty". Once again, his distribution was unreal, he was nearly a field player today with the way he knocked the ball around, and that is something so new to this Anfield side and will really add a special dynamic throughout the season.

"Nobody thinks about it anymore and that's good because he's a player in this market, in the moment, he's at least worth it".

"It is too strong to say anything after two match days. That's what we want to keep doing the whole season".

Palace manager Roy Hodgson was frustrated by the penalty award among several other decisions by referee Michael Oliver. "OK we lost but we have to be proud". "It is a theatrical fall which we've seen a lot of players do". If that's a penalty than the game has changed beyond all recognition.

Despite disagreeing with the decision to award Liverpool a penalty, Milivojevic refused to "cry" over the incident. "I thought we pushed them very hard", said Hodgson.

"As players, we have to respect the referee. I'm more interested in the fact we played really well". Made a couple more really important saves throughout along with some catches and punch outs that needed attention.
