Manchester United have signed Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred and FC Porto defender Diogo Dalot in the summer transfer window so far.

Mourinho had expressed a desire for two new arrivals but says it will be "not a drama" if the club make just one new addition.

Asked if he was confident he would get both, the United boss said: "No".

Although Jose Mourinho would now rather sell the forward, the Old Trafford hierarchy do not want to let such a talent go to a domestic rival such as Chelsea or Tottenham Hotspur.

He has never lasted more than three seasons at any of his clubs before. It is our nature and our way to always want more for your team.

"But then club decisions are different and normally you don't get what you want, which happened basically during all my career".

However, Mourinho's biggest cause for complaint - that he has not been given the money for the signings he wanted - has won some sympathy, even from the Manchester United board despite reportedly strained relations with Ed Woodward, the executive vice-chairman.

"I don't know how long he will be out for", he said.

Reports reaching home from the USA tour depict players too nervous to talk openly about what they think, with the Daily Telegraph and The Sun claiming those in the squad feel they are "treading on eggshells".

"The players that we have bought one is a goalkeeper cover, another one is a 19-year-old kid". "He's come in even after the Liverpool [defeat] and spoken very highly of what we've have given as a team and as a unit".

Fred made his first United appearance off the bench in Saturday's 4-1 friendly loss to Liverpool after enjoying his post-World Cup downtime.

Although the United manager did gripe about the early start to the Premier League campaign, especially in a World Cup year.

Mourinho wants to add Leicester's Harry Maguire and Inter Milan's Ivan Perisic but fears he will start United's Premier League opener at home to Leicester the following night without a squad capable of a title challenge. "I agree with that".

"I just hope the boys on deserved holidays, they take care of themselves a little bit", Mourinho said after the second-half collapse against Liverpool. I really don't like that.
