McCain to lie in state in US Capitol late this week

President Trump is not expected to attend any of the services due to his and McCain's longtime feud. The flags surrounding the Washington monument are still at half staff.

Trump's remarks-or lack thereof-came after the president and McCain sparred on a variety of topics over the last few years.

Outpourings of emotion online in the wake of McCain's death came nearly immediately, with former President Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, and others offering the condolences.

McCain died Saturday at his ranch near Sedona, Arizona, at age 81. While it is not known if she'll be able to attend his funeral, which, as officially announced, will take place on 2 September at the cemetery of the naval Academy in Annapolis (Maryland) graduate was John McCain.

Some said the White House was simply following proper procedure because US Flag Code states that flags be lowered "on the day of death and the following day for a Member of Congress".

At the request of the McCain family, I have also authorized military transportation of Senator McCain's remains from Arizona to Washington, D.C., military pallbearers and band support, and a horse and caisson transport during the service at the United States Naval Academy.

The flags at the U.S. Capitol, meanwhile, remained at half-staff on Monday to honor the Arizona Republican, who died Saturday of brain cancer.

Knoller notes that Mr. Trump did not issue a formal proclamation on McCain's death.

U.S. Rep. Phil Roe, R-1st, of Johnson City, spoke of working with McCain on veterans issues in a statement released by his office.

Presidents get wide latitude in deciding when to lower the flags, and for how long. French President Emmanuel Macron tweeted in English that McCain "was a true American hero". "There really is no room in the McCain family today to focus on anything but him", said Rick Davis, family spokesman, in response to the White House flags, TicToc by Bloomberg reports.

Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo ordered flags in the state lowered to half-staff to mark McCain's death.

As a young U.S. Navy pilot, McCain was shot down over Hanoi, Vietnam, in 1967.

Nor did it comment at all on McCain's outstanding bravery and patriotism over the course of his fascinating and full life - one in which he dedicated literally decades of his life to the service of this country.
