Three infants among five people stabbed at NY nursery

The New York Post quoted an unidentified "high-ranking source" as saying that the home was also serving as a "citizenship mill".

Neighbours said they called police on Friday after hearing screams coming from the building in the Flushing neighbourhood of Queens.

Two adults and three infants were injured during a knife attack in Queens early Friday morning.

A police spokesperson earlier said that the childcare center appeared to be an "illegal" facility for members of the city's Asian community, but officers later clarified that its status was unclear.

The adults that were stabbed include a father of one of the children at the center who was stabbed in the leg and a female co-worker who was stabbed multiple times in the torso.

All victims were taken to the hospital. All are in critical but stable condition. She also stabbed a coworker.

It is not known what led to the attack and what the alleged attacker's role was in the day care.

Nine babies were in the center at the time.

Police arrived and discovered the woman in the basement kitchen floor unconscious.

The woman was taken to a hospital where she was treated for her injuries and was undergoing a psychiatric examination, authorities said.

NBC New York reports that police say a butcher knife and meat cleaver - were recovered at the scene.

The motive was not immediately clear.

State-regulated child care programs are prohibited from caring for infants younger than than 6 weeks old unless they receive prior approval from OCFS, the statement said.
