Trump dismisses 'drunk' Kavanaugh accuser as initial Senate vote scheduled

"This is ridiculous and from the Twilight Zone".

"I would defer to the chairman but I don't think we would do it on Thursday", Cornyn said. Kavanaugh's lawyer Beth Wilkinson also did not immediately respond to a request for comment. And she says: 'Well it might not be him.' And there were gaps.

"She then told me that when she was a young teen, she had been sexually assaulted by an older teen", White recalled in the document.

"I'm going to be listening to every word" of the hearing, Murkowski said Tuesday. He also chastised his colleagues for politicizing the issue before hearing Ford and Kavanaugh testify. They note that neither the accusers nor news organizations have found people willing to provide corroboration, even though both women have named people who they said were present at the alleged incidents.

At the end of August, Kavanaugh plans college interviews, including one for his application to Yale on August 27.

Reuters was not immediately able to verify her accusations.

If his nomination clears the panel, it must win confirmation from the full Senate, which Republicans narrowly control 51-49.

Women voters already favor Democrats over Republicans ahead of November's elections, so the party can ill afford to seen as further traumatizing Ford.

US Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh leaves his house as US Marshalls try to hide him from cameras with an umbrella in Chevy Chase, Maryland, US, September 25, 2018.

Democrats continued to seek an FBI investigation of the two women's allegations, which would take several days in each case. That's because Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, one of Kavanaugh's accusers, might be there.

Here's a look at the statements, signed this week, that are certain to play a key role in Thursday's committee hearing where she and Kavanaugh are expected to testify separately.

Senator Chuck Grassley, who chairs the committee, said the hearing will go forward as planned. The psychology professor has said she can not remember exactly when and where the alleged incident took place.

"It's a very unsafe game for our country", Trump said Tuesday, adding that a Deborah Ramirez, a second woman who came forward with a complaint about Kavanaugh while he was at Yale University, had "nothing" and saying she was "messed up" and "drunk" at the time of the alleged incident. She told a therapist. Another woman, Deborah Ramirez, has accused him of sexual misconduct when she and Kavanaugh were students at Yale University. She has said he forced her into a room at a high school party, held her on a bed and tried removing her clothes as he muffled her mouth with his hands.

Kavanaugh has repeatedly denied the accusation.

Kavanaugh and his Republican allies portrayed the allegations as part of a "smear campaign" by Democrats who have fought his nomination from the outset.

It is from this experience that I concluded that although Brett was normally reserved, he was a notably heavy drinker, even by the standards of the time, and that he became aggressive and belligerent when he was very drunk.

He said he "did not have sexual intercourse or anything close to sexual intercourse in high school or for many years thereafter".

About 200 people gathered in front of the Supreme Court building in Washington, chanting: "I believe Christine Ford."U.S. Capitol Police reported that 128 people were arrested on charges of unlawfully demonstrating in Senate office buildings". "They could have pushed it through two and a half weeks ago and you would not be talking about it now, which is frankly what I would have preferred, but they didn't do that".

"The second accuser has nothing", Trump told reporters.
