Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson end engagement

Meantime, things could get awkward for the couple as sources told Page Six that Grande could appear on an upcoming "SNL" episode.

"SNL" producer Lorne Michaels did not elaborate on Grande's reasons for backing out. We're told the two still have love for each other, but things are over romantically.

According to E! News, her manager Scooter Braun had to apologise to the crowd after revealing Ariana wouldn't be gracing the stage as planned.

Grande has also recently been contending with undisclosed personal issues that reportedly prompted the singer to take a break from work to focus on her well-being. In the aftermath, Grande has canceled scheduled shows. They had dated for two years, with the "God Is a Woman" singer referring to him as her "dearest friend".

A rep for Grande did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment, and Davidson's rep had no comment.

Later in the show he joked that if they did break up, he'd be stuck working in U.S. supermarket K-Mart listening to Grande's song "Pete Davidson" on the speakers. We will, but we won't.

Posting across social media, people shared various screenshots of money-raising pages that had been set up for Pete since the split rumours began and they're really quite savage.

Last Friday, Grande released a music video for her new single "breathin", starring the couple's pet pig, Piggy Smallz.

Referencing her "tough month", Grande thanked her fans for their support.

'This era is a joke and lazy, ' said the fan. "It's better than that", he wrote.

Davidson and Grande had announced their engagement in May after a brief period of dating.

Grande has been struggling recently with the death of ex Mac Miller, which came as she was still trying to cope with the bombing at her Manchester concert past year.

TMZ is reporting that Miller's fatal overdose last month may have played a factor in the couple's split.
