FBI contacts Kavanaugh Yale classmate in its investigation

"I want them to do a very comprehensive investigation".

Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, wanted the Federal Bureau of Investigation to take a new look into reports of misconduct by Kavanaugh before a final confirmation vote, President Donald Trump and Sen. Why even have an FBI investigation?

Speaking to the issue of the scope of the FBI's investigation, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said White House counsel Don McGahn, who is managing Kavanaugh's nomination, "has allowed the Senate to dictate what these terms look like, and what the scope of the investigation is".

He also denied reports that the White House is limiting the scope of the probe, saying, "my White House is doing whatever the senators want".

One of those, Sen.

"It's not like they're just now starting", Trump said. He praised Mr Kavanaugh's angry and defiant testimony last Thursday, which followed Dr Ford's appearance before the Senate Judiciary committee.

"We see this horrible, horrible, radical group of Democrats".

President Trump took to Twitter on Saturday night to insist that he hadn't limited the FBI investigation. "Whatever that means, according to the senators and the Republicans and the Republican majority, I want them to do that", Trump said at a White House news conference. When I watched Brett and his wife being interviewed on Fox News on Monday, and when I watched Brett deliver his testimony under oath to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday, I cringed. "If they find something, I'll take that into consideration".

Coons and Flake met in a tiny hallway outside the Senate meeting, and as other members of the committee got involved in the discussions, the two squeezed into "literally a phone booth that we can barely fit in" to continue discussions with another senator, Coons said.

Three women have made accusations against Kavanaugh while he was a high school and college student.

"Brett was a sloppy drunk, and I know because I drank with him", Swisher told the Post.

"We don't want to go on a witch hunt, do we?"

Trump ordered the FBI to reopen Kavanaugh's background investigation, delaying a final vote on the nomination. But those Republicans have the same goal as Trump: confirming Kavanaugh.

In remarks he made Saturday before heading to a MAGA rally in West Virginia, Trump said the investigation was expected to be concluded within a week's time. and conclude in less than a week. I was surprised at how vocal he was about he fact that he likes beer ...

Mr Trump has called Mr Kavanaugh a good man who has been treated unfairly.

A constituent contacted the office of Democrat Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, alleging that Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted an acquaintance on a boat in Newport, Rhode Island, in 1985, but Grassley said the person later "recanted" and apologised for the allegation via social media.

Trump continued to lament the effect of the scrutiny on Kavanaugh's family.

"What his wife is going through, what his handsome children are going through, it's not describable", Trump said.

Republicans control 51 seats in the closely divided 100-member Senate and can not afford to lose more than one vote on confirmation.

He lashed again at Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., on July 30.

Ford said another boy, Mark Judge, was in the room with Kavanaugh when she was attacked; Judge has said he doesn't remember the incident.

But Coons said he believes we will "be in a different place" after the pause because "lots of survivors around the country will feel that Dr. Ford's story was heard and respected and further investigated".
