Jamal Khashoggi's mystery slaying splits Trump, GOP

These latest revelations from anonymous Turkish officials as well as Turkey's president come just hours after Pompeo finished an all-smiles meeting with the Saudi crown prince and King Salman, during which-according to State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert-the USA secretary of state "thanked the King for Saudi Arabia's strong partnership with the United States" and applauded the murderous regime for vowing to carry out "a thorough, transparent, and timely investigation of Jamal Khashoggi's disappearance". I'm going to sanction the hell out of Saudi Arabia.

The investigators, who eventually searched the premises for eight hours, took samples with them, including soil from the consulate garden, according to an official at the scene.

The president concluded: 'Answers will be forthcoming shortly'.

Those of us not privy to intelligence briefings may never know definitively what happened to Jamal Khashoggi. I feel personally offended. "He can never be a world leader on the world stage", said the SC senator. That's not something the Saudi Government has said officially, but it seems to be the explanation Trump has warmed to.

Turkish officials have said they believe Khashoggi was murdered and his body removed, which the Saudis have strongly denied.

It comes as police who searched the nearby Saudi consulate found evidence dissident writer Jamal Khashoggi died there, according to a senior Turkish official. The statement would pin blame on intelligence officials rather than Saudi leaders, alleging that an interrogation attempt had gone wrong and Khashoggi, who is a US resident and an opinion writer at the Washington Post, was killed without authorization.

Graham added that MBS is toxic. "This guy's gotta go".

Mr Erdogan has previously suggested parts of the consulate had been repainted since the disappearance of the journalist, who was a critic of the Saudi regime.

The US's defence of its most important Arab ally may become harder to maintain as further damning details into Khashoggi's alleged murder emerge and its links to the powerful crown prince. "This is a rogue Crown Prince". The New York Times and Washington Post each reported late Tuesday that several people from that list are linked to Saudi security services and the crown prince. It also reported that a fifth suspect identified by Turkey is a forensic doctor who holds a senior position in the Saudi interior ministry.

The president of Turkey said this issue is under his personal control.

Cavusoglu on Tuesday said no confession from the Saudi side has been made yet regarding the missing journalist.

He vanished after entering the consulate for official documents for his wedding to his Turkish fiancée.

Trump said Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin's trip to attend a Saudi investment conference is still on, but could be cancelled by Friday depending on what the investigation finds.

A search was to be conducted on Tuesday of the Saudi consul's residence in Turkey, some 200 metres away from the consulate, where Khashoggi was last seen alive.
