And one thing that's come across in the previous year or so of appearances is a newfound stature and confidence in her role, something Meghan doesn't have yet, for very obvious and understandable reasons.

Seven years on, the Duchess of Cambridge continues to live the fairytale-we need to look no further for proof than the magnificent ice-blue gown and glittering diamonds she wore to a state dinner last night.

"Normally I'm a fan of what Kate wears, but this is truly bad".

Known for her use of colourful gemstones and intricate settings, Kate wears a pair of earrings by the British labels to nearly every public engagement, both formal and casual. "'What was she thinking".

The last time Kate's dresses caused such controversy was she stepped out in "frumpy" floral dresses by Erdem two nights running during the royal tour of Sweden in January 2018.

According to People, she donned jewelry from fellow royal ancestors, including Queen Alexandra's wedding necklace.

Kate, 36, wore the Royal Family Order of Queen Elizabeth II, an honour given by Her Majesty to female royals, at the glitzy dinner at Buckingham Palace, held in honour of Queen Maxima and King Willem-Alexander. The dress - made in a thick vintage-inspired fabric - featured a ruched bodycon fit on the torso and flared out in a fishtale style.

FYI: The Duchess is wearing an Alexander McQueen dress with the Lover's Knot tiara paired with Queen Alexandra's wedding necklace.

The duchess finished the look with the diamond and pearl Cambridge Lover's Knot tiara owned by Princess Diana, which she also wore to the Chinese state banquet in 2015 and the Spanish state banquet past year.

Kate and Prince William were among a clutch of royals, headed by Queen Elizabeth, who turned out to greet the Dutch royals for the kind of glittery gala that only Buckingham Palace can offer.
