Brothel owner Dennis Hof wins seat in Nevada despite being dead

He was believed to have died in his sleep.

"I'm riding the Trump wave", Hof told CNN in June as he explained how an owner of legal brothels could win elections.

A brothel-owning, evangelical Christian-backed Republican candidate, who died last month, won his race for the Nevada state legislature late on Tuesday, according to state election officials.

Democrat Lesia Romanov was left with no living Republican opposition in the race for Nevada's 36th Assembly District - but lost.

Hof, who starred in the HBO reality television show "Cathouse" about the prostitutes working at one of his establishments, was running for a seat in the Nevada state assembly as a pro-Trump Republican. Officials have not yet released a cause of death, but they do not think it was the result of foul play.

Nevada's 36th Assembly District sits in the southern portion of the state, and includes portions of Nye, Lincoln and of Clark counties.

"They will feel much more comfortable casting the ballot for him knowing there will be another Republican to replace him".

Hof was found dead at his Love Ranch brothel, located about an hour outside Las Vegas. He had spent the four previous days partying with notables from the adult film industry and political world, like Jeremy and Joe Arpaio, the former Arizona sheriff who was convicted of criminal contempt of court but pardoned by Trump. Odom entered a coma but survived.

Initial estimates suggested the deceased Hof won almost 70% of the vote.

"There are a lot of Republicans who were uncomfortable voting for Dennis because of the nature of his business, and they now know that he is not the one who will be serving", campaign manager Chuck Muth said in a statement to Reuters.

Dennis Hof had attempted to mould his political image on that of President Donald Trump, often referring to himself as "Trump from Pahrump" after his hometown in Nevada, according to reports.
