Saudi Arabian sisters found duct-taped together in NY's Hudson River

Their mother told detectives that the day before her daughters were discovered, an official at the Saudi Arabian Embassy had ordered the family to leave the United States and return home because of the girls' asylum request.

Police also urged anyone who saw the sisters between August 24 and October 24 - the timeframe of when they were reported missing to when their bodies were discovered - to come forward with information.

After changing its story on multiple occasions, the Saudi government recently came clean and admitted that its agents were behind Khashoggi's death.

Sketches were initially released of the Saudi Arabian sisters who were found bound by duct tape in the Hudson River near New York City's Upper West Side. Police said both were fully clothed and there were no obvious signs of trauma.

The medical examiner's office hasn't yet announced the cause of death, but at this time authorities are looking at both suicide and homicide as possibilities.

Investigators are still mystified by how and why Rotana, 22, and Tala, 16, made their way to NY from their adopted Virginia home, as well as whether their demise was a weird suicide pact or something more sinister.

Almost a week after two Fairfax County sisters were found dead along a riverbank in New York City, mystery still surrounds their deaths. Their mother filed a missing persons report for Tala in December 2017.

The Saudi consulate-general in NY said it was "conducting a continuous follow-up to find out the facts" regarding the incident, according to a statement shared by Al Arabiya on Tuesday.

Anyone with information is urged to call CrimeStoppers at 800-577-TIPS. The lack of obvious trauma appeared to rule out a theory they may have jumped into the river from the George Washington Bridge.

The Saudi embassy in Washington declined to comment on the reports.

The Farea sisters' deaths have been shrouded in mystery since last week.

The Consulate General is following closely with local authorities the investigation of the two Saudi citizens found in the Hudson river.

As of Tuesday, investigators still had not determined how they died.
