The Duchess of Sussex wore a more modern outfit with a £2,250 coat by Victoria Beckham, a £1,200 bag by the designer and boots from the VB range.

People shouted "Merry Christmas" to the royal party as they went by and later the Sussexes and Cambridges greeted people, accepting gifts of flowers and chatting to people.

She also welcomed two great-grandchildren this past year as Kate Middleton and Prince William added baby Louis to their family back in April.

This time previous year Kate was pregnant with her third child, Prince Louis.

Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, Princess Beatrice and Zara Tindall and Mike Tindall also attended the church service.

The Duchess of Cornwall missed out due to a "heavy cold".

Meghan Markle may now be gearing up for Christmas festivities with the royal family, but 20 years ago she was celebrating the holidays a bit differently.
