The Real Reason Manchester United Haven't Sacked Jose Mourinho Yet

The Real Reason Manchester United Haven't Sacked Jose Mourinho Yet

The club is 19 pints behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, who they lost to (1-3) last weekend.

Jose Mourinho and Paul Pogba had a notoriously icy relationship during their time together at Old Trafford, frequently taking veiled shots at each other.

While his success in the commercial market has taken the club to new heights on the balance sheet, the football side of the business has been a train wreck by Manchester United's standards under his watch.

"A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager". Articles appear on euronews.com for a limited time.

In an interview with Sky Sports ahead of United's trip to Anfield on Sunday, Rashford spoke extensively about how he was spotted by the Old Trafford outfit.

Xherdan Shaqiri's brace and one goal from Sadio Mane ensured the Reds maintained their unbeaten status in the league.

Manchester United's most expensive player posted a cryptic message online about Jose Mourinho's firing - then swiftly deleted it.

And that speaks more about his own shortcomings than those of Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Mourinho.

He has won EFL Cup and Europa League honours with United and last season guided the club to a highest league finish and points tally since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

Thoughts of a league title, or even of the next meeting with Pep Guardiola's team, are not being considered publicly by Klopp, though.

"I feel the same as when I arrived here to work as a coach, and further back as a player", Solari continued.

December 18, 2018 - Just two days after their first defeat in nine league matches against their north-west rivals, Manchester United announced the Portuguese was sacked by the club on Tuesday morning.

"For the first half-hour we were outstanding, scored only one, but I don't think anyone expects four or five against this United team".

The manager's overall EPL points haul of 176 since his appointment by United lagged behind City, Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea during the same period. It's fair to assume Mourinho would have had the same condition in his contract too, which means that United's decision to relieve him of his duties will have been a costly exercise indeed.
