Another Cold Blast On Its Way, Possible Snow Or Wintry Mix

Another Cold Blast On Its Way, Possible Snow Or Wintry Mix

High temperatures stay cold for Sunday, in the mid teens.

This Cold Warning will remain in effect until the low temperature for the day is projected to be above -15°C. At least it's a MUCH lighter snow than we've seen the previous two weekends. Wind gusts of 50 to 60mph are possible for areas to the north and west of the metro.

Hazardous travel was anticipated, especially for the Monday morning commute, NWS added.

"Motorists are advised to exercise caution as visibilities may suddenly be reduced", the advisory says.

Sunday will also be a cloudy day with occasional snow showers.

Colder than normal temperatures are predicted to stick around into next week. Sunday night into Monday we should clear most of the cloud cover and allow for a bit of sunshine through the morning hours of Monday. Northwest winds gusting over 35 miles per hour on the leading edge of an arctic-source high pressure air mass will produce risky wind chills to -30 degrees or colder later Thursday night into Friday morning across northeastern IL immediately to the north and west of Chicago. By Friday morning, it'll feel like -20 to -30 with actual air temperatures -5 to -10.

The weather service warned residents to plan ahead for what they will be doing for those three days, and if/when they need to be outside how they will ensure their safety.

"Exposure to cold weather can be harmful to your health", de Villa wrote in a news release.
