"Kelly" on track at Lifetime amid threats of legal action

Carey Kelly dropped the bombshell during an interview for controversial new documentary series Surviving R. Kelly, which debuted in the US on Thursday night. "Mr. Kelly again denies any and all wrong doing and is taking appropriate legal action to protect himself from ongoing defamation". "Robert was having sex with Aaliyah", continued Cunningham, who added, "I feel protective of Aaliyah right now, which is why I can't get my mouth to say... he destroyed a lot of people". Below we answer some of your burning questions.

Featuring more than 50 interviews across six installments, the project dives into Kelly's controversial history.

"Aaliyah [was] very tom-boyish, glasses, braces, no swag", Cunningham recalls of meeting 12-year-old Aaliyah, who was the niece of Kelly's then-manager.

The couple were married for 13 years, with Andrea saying she suffers from a post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after an alleged assault from her ex-husband.

In the documentary, which started airing on Thursday (4 January), backing singer Jovante Cunningham claims to have caught R Kelly having sex with singer Aaliyah when she was just 15 and he was 27. The two also reportedly tied the knot in a secret marriage that was later annulled by her parents.

Has any of the allegations affected his children?

The docu-series portrays the sexual abuse allegations which have trailed R. Kelly's Career albeit in the shadows pretty much since inception.

"He told me he was recording an album, and I was like "okay, nice to meet you" and then he left", she says. While she was turned down by many A-list celebrities, the focus of the story was never meant to be on them anyway.

R.Kelly's manipulation and grooming of Aaliyah are also well-documented.

The buzzed-about R. Kelly docuseries is officially out in the world and already making an impact.

Sparkle hit headlines in the early Noughties after she alleged R Kelly was involved in a videotape showing him engaging in a sexual act with one of her family members. For the first time ever, survivors and people from R. Kelly's inner circle, are coming forward with new allegations about his sexual, mental, and physical abuse.

It's been 25 years since R. Kelly first had to answer to the allegations and while he hasn't been found guilty in a court of law, the years of piling evidence, along with movements like Time's Up and #MuteRKelly are certainly signifiers of upcoming retribution.
