Another criticism thrown at Mourinho was United's lack of identity and Solskjaer has addressed that issue by being clear on what to expect from his sides.

United knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup on Friday night with a well deserved 3-1 victory, to march on to the fifth round.

Obviously the brief from the manager will be to get plenty of men behind the ball and try and frustrate the hosts - a tactic that nearly paid off at Spurs in December - and they will take heart from the fact that their last two away games in the league saw them win 2-1 at Huddersfield and draw 0-0 at Watford.

Ron Atkinson does not believe Manchester United need to rush into making any decision on anointing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their next long-term manager.

He said: "We are playing with no limits, yes - it's exactly what Ole brought to the team since the first day".

Solskjaer said he was determined to ensure United were in much ruder health next season and in a position to hit the ground running, even if he was overlooked for the manager's job on a permanent basis.

"Everyone wants to get the best from the players so you have to put your arm around them and show them that they are important to you".

The Belgian star conceded the Norwegian tactician has turned around United's fortunes, disclosing that he has instilled confidence in the dressing room. So when we are playing everything is possible because even in the tough moments when we are defending, we have the feeling that we can hurt the opponent because we are allowed to attack'. Scoring as many goals as you can.

"Jesse's got energy, he's got a steel about him", Solskjaer added.

"So he's saying, 'Look, I'm the manager of the football team, you're no longer the captain as long as I'm here'".

Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton has admitted he considered leaving the club in the January transfer window due to limited game time.

'We're happy with the wins but we aren't satisfied with the overall situation. And we know there's a very, very good player there with Fred, so hopefully he'll adjust to the English game because there's no doubting of his talent.

"They don't help us to be in the match, maybe when the result's 1-2".
