Dallas Mavericks make the blockbuster trade with New York Knicks

There's officially breaking news coming out of the National Basketball Association, as the Dallas Mavericks and New York Knicks have agreed to a blockbuster trade that includes a host of all-star talent.

Porzingis voiced his frustration with the team's losing ways and expressed his concern that a culture is developing that will make sustained organizational success unlikely, ESPN reported.

Smith returned to the Mavericks lineup on January 23 after a two-week absence while trade rumors swirled.

Hours later, NY traded Porzingis to the Mavericks in a deal that brought back two future first-round picks, Dennis Smith Jr. NY general manager Scott Perry said the Knicks would get an unprotected pick in 2021 and the other pick would be in 2023.

The move leaves NY with roughly $70 million in cap space for the summer of 2019 - enough room to add two max free agents.

Trey Burke, who is averaging 11.8 points per game this season, is headed to the Mavericks along with Porzingis and salary dumps Courtney Lee and Tim Hardaway Jr., sources told ESPN. DeAndre Jordan and Wesley Matthews are on expiring contracts. Wojnarowski contested that report.

Porzingis, 23, has been out since last February after tearing his ACL. He was enjoying an All-Star season when he got hurt a year ago, averaging a career-high 22.7 points per game.

Imagining two hypothetical max players in those slots, let's call them Kevin Dirving and Dyrie Kurant, along with Kevin Knox and Dennis Smith Jr. moves the Knicks a lot further along than where they are right now.

They were never able to come a superpower after signing Stoudemire in 2010, and giving up a lot in the following trade deadline for Carmelo Anthony.

The Slovenian rookie recently had an incredible outing against the Raptors where he recorded 30 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists to become the league's first teenager with a 30-point triple double, as well asthe first teen to register multiple triple-doubles.
