At a separate news conference, the State Department deputy spokesperson said the USA has been in close communication with the Indian government "to express not only our condolences but our strong support".

"I don't care about losing points as the Indian team is powerful enough to win the World Cup without playing Pakistan", Singh told the Aaj Tak Hindi news channel late Monday.

Macri, on his part, strongly condemned the Pulwama attack and offered his condolences to the families of those killed in the massacre.

A top Indian military official in disputed Kashmir on Tuesday accused the Pakistani army and its spy agency for involvement in the last week's deadly auto bombing.

"The Government of India (GoI) and Kashmir government must ensure that ordinary Kashmiri women and men do not face targeted attacks, harassment and arbitrary arrests following the killing of 40 security personnel in Kashmir by a suicide auto bomber", the AI stated.

He also made it clear that the Pulwama attack was carried out by the JeM, which is based in Pakistan, with active support of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the Pakistan Army.

India has demanded that Pakistan "stop supporting" terrorists who use Pakistan as a base.

The government has warned against rising communal tension. "India must be asked to conduct an open and credible investigation on Pulwama incident".

"Pakistan won't just think to retaliate".

Indian envoys in different world capitals were also meeting top representatives of their host governments to brief them in an attempt to isolate Pakistan on the global stage.

They said a search was under way to track the militants, but the fate of the attackers was not immediately known. And we will take action not because of [external] pressure, but because these people would be enemies of Pakistan. "But as I say we will continue to monitor the situation".

"I took the opportunity to inform Rajnath Singh Sb of the reports I had received of Kashmiri students & others being threatened/harassed and requested him to appoint a nodal officer in HMO India to ensure the directive issued to states is followed in letter & spirit (sic)", he wrote on Twitter.
