Taiwan's Hsieh ousts Kerber to reach quarters

I came here, I didn't really have many days of practice.

"I'm here to win matches, try to improve my game each match". I'm trying to be more aggressive. In a few of the games I was thinking: 'Maybe I hit the ball pretty well, ' but I wanted to be a little bit on the safe side.

Pliskova had the chance to serve out at 6-5 but was broken to love by the world No 51 and the match went to a second tie-break.

She was the dominant figure against the German in the decider and it was the other way around today, beating Pliskova 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 in two hours but only after trailing 5-1 in set number three! She knocked out the young Canadian tennis player despite Genie seeing some promise in the early months of the 2019 WTA Tour.

The Australian and US Open champion, 21, was beaten 6-3 6-3 by France's Kristina Mladenovic in the Dubai Tennis Championships second round.

The WTA event continues until 23rd February, with Thursday's quarter-finals featuring 2019 Brisbane victor and Australian Open semi-finalist Karolina Pliskova against Su-Wei Hsieh, 2019 Sydney champion and Australian Open runner-up Petra Kvitova against Viktoria Kuzmova, reigning French Open champion Simona Halep against Belinda Bencic and defending champion Elina Svitolina against Carla Suarez Navarro.

"I was playing my best tennis and I was handling the first set pretty good but then it is frustrating to have this kind of injury".

Australian Open runner-up Kvitova was two points away from losing the opening set in the ninth game when she responded in style by clinching 14 of the next 16 points. Curious to see what it is going to be with Kyrgios even if I am starting to think that he is a lost cause. It was the second consecutive day that the popular Czech had been drawn into a three-set fight. I tried to be quicker today than yesterday.

"The wind was hard today".

Russia's Viktoria Kuzmova overcame seventh seed Kiki Bertens 6-2 4-6 7-6 (8-6), while American Sofia Kenin progressed with a 6-3 2-6 6-4 victory at the expense of Russian 11th seed Daria Kasatkina. It was really hard to kind of find a way with it.

Meanwhile, Taiwan's Hsieh Su-wei, 33, saw off Belarus' Aliaksandra Sasnovich, 24, 6-1 6-2. I wasn't really that prepared for this tournament. "For me, it was really tough to find my rhythm, but also find out the way she is playing". I had something different to do in my life.
