Chicago Police open internal investigation into alleged leaks in Jussie Smollett case

The CPD is now investigating how information about the case involving Smollett made its way to various media outlets without going through the proper channels.

The Chicago Police Department has launched an internal investigation into officers probing actor Jussie Smollett's claim of being victim of a racial attack earlier this year , due to reports that the police had leaked information about the case while it was ongoing.

Smollett ignited a media firestorm by telling police two apparent supporters of U.S. President Donald Trump had struck him, put a noose round his neck and poured bleach over him during an assault outside his apartment on January 29.

"I will also add that there were several agencies briefed with information during that time and some of the information that went out was not factually accurate", Guglielmi told ABC News on Thursday evening.

According to CBS Chicago, a nurse, who remains anonymous, said that she was sacked from Northwestern Memorial Hospital last Tuesday for simply scrolling past the actor's chart without actually accessing it. She says she never accessed the actor's chart but simply scrolled past it when looking for another patient's name.

One nurse, however, said she believes the firing was a miscommunication and is appealing the termination. The influx of information that leaked to the media relating to Jussie Smollett's case has prompted officials to look into where their "vulnerabilities" lie.

Smollett, who is accused of filing a false police report, was charged last month with felony disorderly conduct.

"This whole thing started off from him allegedly being attacked by some guys who appeared to be white guys wearing a hat that said "Make America Great Again", yelled epithets at him, and said, This is MAGA country", Latifah says.

Smollett himself was later arrested, after Chicago police determined that the incident was a hoax that Smollett allegedly orchestrated. The brothers also reportedly told the Grand Jury they were paid for the gym sessions - NOT for the "attack".

The blast radius from the alleged racist and homophobic attack on Jussie Smollett continues to grow - and we don't mean the actor's future onEmpire or his next court appearance.
