Huawei presents flagship smartphone in Paris during Chinese leader's visit

The Huawei P30 Pro aims to become the new camera king, thanks to its 5x periscope zoom camera and one of a kind 40MP sensor with yellow sub pixels. We are definitely going to have some fun testing these in the following days. The Huawei P30 and P30 Pro have just joined the race, offering "phoneographers" a lot to play with.

If you've been convinced that this is the phone for you and know that you'd prefer this more powerful, bigger brother to the Huawei P30 then get stuck straight into our comparison and get your pre-order sorted.

That is, of course, due to the P30 Pro's periscope lens that grants a groundbreaking 5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom, and a simply astonishing 50x digital zoom.

In terms of price, the P30 is priced at €799, while the P30 Pro will retail starting at €999.

"The Galaxy phone can not see a Galaxy", Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO Richard Yu said in a jab at Samsung's Galaxy phones, while showing the audience a photo of a star cluster.

The Huawei P30 Pro comes with a quad camera setup that includes a 40-MP primary camera with OIS and an f/1.6 aperture, a 20-MP secondary camera with an f/2.2 wide-angle lens, and an 8-MP zoom camera.

Artificial intelligence has also always been a key component in Huawei's smartphone design: the P30 phones make use of AIHDR+, whereby the camera surveys a picture for light and can decide where more is necessary rather than brightening the whole image.

Huawei, which also makes telecoms network equipment, has been under much global scrutiny following US allegations that the Chinese giant's products could be used by Beijing for spying.

Particularly intriguing, though, is the zoom capabilities afforded by the P30 Pro.

When is the Huawei P30 release date?

Despite there being little noticeable difference in the size of the top bezels, Huawei didn't put a traditional speaker at the top of the P30 Pro as it does on the P30. Leaked marketing materials point to the P30 Pro coming with improved low-light recording and something called "dual-view video" which will allow users to record videos from two rear cameras simultaneously.

The P30 has a 3,650mAh battery with support for 22.5W fast charging while the P30 Pro has a 4,200mAh battery with support for 40W fast-charging and support for 15W wireless fast charging. Incidentally, the P30 has a triple-lens camera scheme on the back.

For the selfie camera, both the Huawei P30 and Huawei P30 Pro come with a 32MP sensor with AI HDR+.

Huawei consumer business group CEO Richard Yu posted a photo of the moon on his Weibo account weeks before Tuesday's launch, with the blurred watermark hinting at the P30 series.

Huawei also unveiled the FreeBuds earbuds with a design similar to Apple's AirPods These earbuds come with 12 hours of battery life through their available case and have an IPX4-rated water and dust resistant build.
