Rep. Zeldin Explains 'No' Vote on 'Watered Down,' 'Spineless' Anti-Hate Resolution

Rep. Zeldin Explains 'No' Vote on 'Watered Down,' 'Spineless' Anti-Hate Resolution

After the House passed a resolution condemning anti-Semitism, Islamophobia and other types of hate on Thursday evening, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) released a joint statement with Reps.

Democrats wrestled for days about whether or how to punish Omar, a freshman from Minnesota who's one of two Muslim women in Congress.

But Democrats insisted Trump was out of bounds to suggest their party was anti-Jewish.

On Friday, Trump said that Democrats have become an "anti-Israel" and "anti-Jewish party".

"Rep. Omar's comments were wrong and she has proven multiple times that she embodies a vile, hate-filled, anti-Semitic, anti-Israel bigotry", Cheney said.

Halie Soifer, the Jewish Democratic Council of America Executive Director responded to Trump's accusation on Friday, calling him a "hypocrite". Sarsour in her video took credit for convincing House Democratic leadership for "expanding the language of the resolution to include condemning all forms of bigotry". Democrats are trying to push past a dispute that has overwhelmed their agenda and exposed fault lines that could shadow them through next year's elections.

Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.) continued to sound off on Thursday's anti-hate resolution passed in the House of Representatives by pointing out the "double standard" that exists for Democrats and Republicans.

And as far as global relations goes, Ms. Omar is in the finest of company, because one hears reports of French Jews immigrating to Israel in increasing numbers because of anti-Jewish sentiment and a disturbing number of attacks on Jews in the stylish and trend-setting nation of France.

"We know that however we change the wording... the intention of it, given the timing and given the story, it is a rebuke of Ilhan Omar, and it falsely claims that what she said was anti-Semitic when it absolutely wasn't". A few Republicans who opposed the resolution said it should have only covered anti-Semitism.

"I don't think that the congresswoman perhaps appreciated the full weight of how it was heard by other people, although I don't believe it was intended in an anti-Semitic way", she explained. "We have groups like If Not Now, and we have, again, these polls that show that American Jews are more and more disillusioned, especially young Jews, with Israel", she said.

In 2016, faced with the rise of Donald Trump, I publicly de-registered from the Republican Party, and not just in vague terms.

"If [Omar] was a Republican, that member's name would be in this resolution and this resolution would be all about condemning antisemitism and it would be done so forcefully", Zeldin said in a fiery House floor speech.

"If that isn't allegiance to a foreign government, I don't know what is", Gold told hosts Brian Becker and John Kiriakou.
