Adam Sandler Will Host "SNL" For the First Time

Adam Sandler Will Host

Adam Sandler, who rose to fame as a cast member on "Saturday Night Live", is returning to host the show for the first time.

On Friday following the news, Twitter lit up - and folks are already speculating what other "characters" might show up with him.

"We are happy to welcome Adam back to 'SNL" in what is sure to be a special night, ' said executive producer Lorne Michaels, according to Variety. Sandler joined the show as a writer in 1990 and was in the cast from 1991 to 95, creating many memorable characters, impressions and musical moments, including "The Chanukah Song". The pair also worked together on Sandler's famous Lunch Lady Land song.

The actor's film career has been mostly defined with middling comedies with an adolescent sense of humor (Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison), only occasionally elevating himself with dramatic roles like Punch Drunk Love and Reign Over Me. "I did what I could do on that show". Sandler and Farley were both fired from "SNL" in 1995, but Sandler told The Daily Beast in 2014 that "we kind of quit at the same time as being fired".

He is slated to reprise his role of voicing Dracula in Hotel Transylvania 4 and his most recent comedy special, 100% Fresh is now streaming on Netflix.
