Allison Mack "Smallville" actress pleads guilty today in NXIVM sex slave case

Allison Mack

Actress Allison Mack departs the Brooklyn Federal Courthouse after facing charges regarding sex trafficking and racketeering related to the Nxivm cult case in ny, U.S., April 8, 2019.

The actress had previously pleaded not guilty to charges of sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy, racketeering, racketeering conspiracy, forced labor conspiracy, and wire fraud conspiracy, Yahoo News reported. Mack was arrested by federal authorities past year, and prosecutors allege that she recruited women to be sex slaves for the group's founder, Keith Raniere.

She was among six people indicted past year for their roles in running the controversial group led by Keith Raniere, who prosecutors say ran a master-slave ring within the organization with Mack's help.

Mack is best known for her role as a young Superman's close friend on the series "Smallville".

The plea came hours before jury selection was expected to begin in the federal trial. Raniere ran the NXIVM sex cult, and Mack confessed to helping manipulate women to become his sex slaves.

Mack confessed to being part of DOS, an alleged secret master-slave group associated with NXIVM, and admitted she kept a slave and instructed women "to perform services for me".

Authorities say the women were branded by a surgical tool with a symbol that resembled Raniere's initials.

"I believed Keith Raniere's intentions were to help people. and I was wrong", Mack told a judge in federal court in Brooklyn as she pleaded guilty to racketeering charges. All have pleaded not guilty and denied any wrongdoing.

Raniere, Seagram's liquor heiress Claire Bronfman and Nxivm accountant Kathy Russell also are facing charges in the case.

Two other members of the group, Nancy Salzman and her daughter Lauren Salzman, also entered guilty pleas recently. The defense said the women were never abused. If convicted of those charges, she would have faced life in prison.

Mack was released on a $5 million bond days after her arrest previous year.

Raniere, 58, was arrested on sex trafficking charges in March 2018, and is being held without bail.
