Tear-drinking bees pulled alive from inside woman's eye in Taiwan

A woman was shocked to discover that a group of bees were living inside her eye - and feeding off of her tears.

The small bees, known as Halictidae or "sweat bees", are attracted to human perspiration and are found all over the world.

"I saw something that looked like insect legs, so I pulled them out under a microscope slowly, and one at a time without damaging their bodies", Hung said, according to Business Insider Singapore.

She first believed it to be soil or grit, and rinsed her eye with water.

The woman, only identified by her last name as He, said she visited Fooyin University Hospital in the county of Pingtung to have her eye checked.

He was discharged and is expected to make a full recovery, KRON-TV reported. "They were still intact and all alive", he said.

They say it was a "world first". Unexpectedly, after returning home, her left eye suddenly became inflamed and swollen like a "salted duck egg superman".

The woman had been visiting a relative's grave earlier that day.

Dr Hong added that Ms He was "lucky" that she did not rub her eyes while the bees were inside.

Having four bees in your eye sounds revolting, but Dr. Hong said the situation could have been much worse. They mostly nest near graves and in fallen trees. "If she did she could have induced the bees to produce venom ... she could have gone blind", Dr Hong told the BBC.

Even though the case is probably the most unusual he's heard about in his time studying entomology, Shelomi emphasized that what happened at the gravesite in Taiwan was a fascinating but not worrisome "freak occurrence". They also live in the US, Canada and throughout Central America.

"The woman will be fine". The film saw its antagonist lynched, slathered in honey, and stung to death - one of the few bee-related deaths in film (we can't forget Wicker Man) and the only one to result in a ghost this angry.

"They are still alive, they've been sent as specimens to another organisation and will be studied".
