Tottenham post world-record £113 million profit

Spurs opened their state-of-the-art 62 000-capacity home on Wednesday, with the hope that increased match-day revenue and an agreement to host NFL games will help the club compete financially with their Premier League rivals.

Second-half goals from Son Heung-min and Christian Eriksen were enough to secure victory at Spurs' new stadium, on an emotional night next door to the old White Hart Lane.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy appears to have kept his position as the highest-paid club executive in the Premier League, but his £3m pay packet in 2017-18 was half the £6m he earned the previous year after a stadium-related bonus.

Eagles boss Roy Hodgson was impressed by the new surroundings but felt his team were not overawed and could have left with something if they had prevented Son scoring 10 minutes after the interval.

"To see the stadium, watch the stadium and play with the stadium, for me is an fantastic experience".

Tottenham Hotspur have announced record profits of £112.9 million, in the club's latest accounts as they begin life in their new stadium, breaking the benchmark set by Liverpool in February of £106 million.

The North London club face a battle to stay in the top four during the remaining Premier League games, while they have a two-legged Champions League tie with Manchester City just around the corner.

"It's just incredible. What an unbelievable stadium".

"We knew the game was going to be hard and tough".

"The noise was just so loud".

"I still remember when I scored my first Premier League goal at White Hart Lane, it was against Crystal Palace and now I score not such a handsome goal but I think the most important goal for me". With the training ground and stadium they are big.

After a couple of test events the official opening was marked by a pre-match ceremony involving a brass band, a school choir and fireworks illuminating the golden cockerel sitting proudly on top of the South Stand.
