Constance Wu explains unhappy response to her sitcom renewal

Leaving no doubt on her true feelings, a fan's congratulations on the "great news" was slapped down by Wu with a sullen reply: "No, it's not".

On Saturday, Wu posted a lengthy essay on Twitter - which appears to have made things even worse.

ABC renewed Fresh Off The Boat on Friday, but cryptic Tweets from Constance Wu have fans questioning whether is pissed about the comedy getting picked up for another season. "F**k", Wu first wrote, without referring to the "Fresh Off the Boat" renewal. "I hope you hear them", following her freakish reaction to "Fresh off the Boat" being picked up for a sixth season.

Constance Wu has an explanation for her Twitter outburst following the news that her show, Fresh Off the Boat, will be back for another season. Last year, she starred in the hit film Crazy Rich Asians and her performance garnered her a Golden Globe nomination.

She has since deleted the original tweets, but screenshots began to surface on Twitter. Who are any of us to judge her career moves.

"I was disappointed in not being able to do that other project-Because that other project would have challenged me as an artist-that other project would have been really hard and not easy or pleasant at all", she said.

When ABC announced the renewal Friday, Wu said in a series of tweets that it was not welcome news. Maybe Wu agreed with that and has frustrations about how her character is depicted on the show. Im proud to be a part of it.

Wu backtracked with another series of tweets, saying this was "not a rampage", and that people should not assume it was the show she was upset about. Sometimes even my closest friends are baffled at how I could value artistic challenge/difficulties over success/happiness.

"I do regret that and it wasn't nice and I am sorry for that", she stated, adding that she knows how privileged she is to have options. Wu also took the time to thank the fans, cast, and crew of Fresh Off the Boat.

She goes on to thank and appreciate those who have read her words and believed her.

"Believe women? You weren't sexually assaulted you were given a multimillion dollar contract extension", tweeted Hollywood Reporter senior writer Seth Abramovitch.

A rep for the ABC show did not immediately return our request for comment.
