Google's pricey Pixel phones aren't selling, even at steep discounts

Unlike the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, which are flagship Android phones, the Pixel 3a family uses more meager specs backed up by a [hopefully] much lower price tag. With the new mid-range models on their way, it seems that Google's decisions to diversify and experiment with its smartphone range, might be just what it needs to keep pushing itself forward in the competitive smartphone market. This will most likely be the Nest Hub Max and the Google Nest Hub along side the mid-range Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL.

Still, despite the Pixel slowing sales, Pichai reenforced the Google's initial reasoning for building its own, in-house hardware - to ensure its "services are presented to users in the way they are meant to be", Pichai said. As reported by 9to5Google, during Alphabet's earnings call, company's Chief Financial Officer Ruth Porat claimed that the company has experienced a year-on-year decline in Pixel smartphones sales during the first quarter of 2019. A prototype of the Google Pixel 3a was recently discovered on Geekbench and it detailed several key details of the upcoming handset. The Pixel 3a duo is has been surrounded by numerous leaks.

Luckily for the company, and fans of the brand hoping to save a bit more, rumors point to the Pixel 3 getting cheaper siblings shortly.

According to the report, another which the company did not mention but can be reason for the decline in the sales of Pixel 3 smartphones is the design aspect. It won't really be goodbye because we know Google and other retailers will still sell the smartphones.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai was "hammered" during a different part of the call about the company's poor Pixel performance.

For the first quarter of 2019, Alphabet earned revenue of $36.3 billion and operating income of $6.6 billion. One analyst even went as far as to compare the Pixel phones with Microsoft's unsuccessful smartphone lineup.
