A Google Cloud outage breaks Snapchat, YouTube, Gmail

Google is now in the process of resolving a major outage of its Google Cloud service which is affecting multiple internal and external services ranging from YouTube and Gmail to Discord and Snapchat.

Google's G Suite Status Dashboard showed that there were problems with nearly every single service at some point, barring Google+ and Google Cloud Search. Users may see slow performance or intermittent errors.

A significant outage with Google Cloud Services Sunday had widespread impacts that included right here on SFist - there were some scary moments there - but the most noticeable impacts for users were probably on Snapchat, YouTube, and Nest.

The issue, which primarily affected the eastern parts of the USA, was resolved in the early hours of this morning. They told the Verge, "We will conduct a post mortem and make appropriate improvements to our systems to prevent this from happening again".

GOOGLE IS RECOVERING from a major outage on Sunday, which took its own services out, along with those of some very high profile clients. Amazingly enough, largely defunct social network Google+ was listed as experiencing no issues.

What we do know at this time is that Google blames "high levels of network congestion in the eastern U.S.".

YouTube also tweeted notifying users as it identified and fixed the issue.

DownDetector.com - an outage tracking website - showed that the number of Snapchat-related complaints had peaked at more than 48,000 before falling to about 1,800 as of 9pm EDT (roughly Rs. 6:30am IST) on Sunday.

"We are experiencing high levels of network congestion in the eastern United States of America, affecting multiple services in Google Cloud, G Suite and YouTube. This detailed report will contain information regarding SLA credits", the latest update reads.
