Dragon Quest XII 'Development Preperation' Is Underway, Says Series Producer

A Pokemon Go-style Dragon Quest game is in the works for release in Japan.

Square Enix recently announced a new Dragon Quest game for mobile that's being developed by colopl. So far it seems a lot less social than Go, which bodes well for a lack of predatory microtransactions, but maybe not so much for its longevity. Add localisation into the mix, and we've got quite the wait on our hands for Dragon Quest XII. It's unknown how the publisher intends to roll the game out worldwide. Are you more excited to see what Dragon Quest XII will eventually bring?

The game was revealed in a Square Enix press conference today (and is the title initially teased just over a week ago).

Lastly, Dragon Quest Walk has an actual story which you progress through by going to story event destination points.

A beta with 20,000 players (10,000 on Android and 20,000 on iOS) will start on June 11 in Japan. You can visit landmarks in the real word to unlock quests, while players can also build a room and decorate it with items they unlock by playing the game. During the very same conference, Dragon Quest series executive producer, Yu Miyake, also spoke of an upcoming Dragon Quest XII. "By the way, about Dragon Quest XII, which I'm sure is on everyone's mind-[Yuji] Horii and I are now making preparations on series developments that will connect to XII". It's still early days, but Miyake wanted to let fans know the team is already thinking about the next major Dragon Quest.
