Baltimore Sun Editorial Slams Trump For Criticizing Its City As

Rep. Will Hurd, the only African-American Republican in the House, said Trump's tweets about Cummings aren't the same as the "go back" postings about Tlaib and her three colleagues - Reps.

Mr. Trump has tweeted about Cummings more than a dozen times times since Saturday, claiming that Cummings' majority-black district in Maryland, which includes parts of downtown Baltimore and extends to the suburbs, is "rat and rodent infested" and considered "the Worst in the U.S.". His radical "oversight" is a joke!

"The congressman has been a thorn in this president's side, and Mr. Trump sees attacking African American members of Congress as good politics, as it both warms the cockles of the white supremacists who love him and causes so numerous thoughtful people who don't to scream". Al is a con man, a troublemaker, always looking for a score.

Hogan -- who very briefly entertained the idea of running against Trump in the primary before deciding against it -- referenced a recent speech he gave about this very divisiveness, "and then 14 hours later we get this tweet that sets off another firestorm of angry tweets back and forth".

Trump appeared to dig a deeper hole even as a top White House aide sought to dismiss the controversy by describing Trump's comments as hyperbole.

In the first of his tweets attacking the freshman lawmakers, he said they should "go back" to the "totally broken and crime infested places from which they came" - remarks that drew a rebuke from the House.

The French government says the tax will end if a similar measure is agreed internationally.

The Baltimore Sun Editorial Board wrote a scathing op-ed aimed at the president. Asked if he understood that Trump's comments were offensive to some Americans, Mulvaney told CBS News, "I understand that everything that Donald Trump says is offensive to some people", Asked if he understood why some people would consider Trump's comments as racist, Mulvaney said, "I understand why, but that doesn't mean that it's racist. It's how he's done in the past and he'll continue to do in the future".

Mulvaney, a former congressman, said he understood why some people could perceive Trump's words as racist. Trump's attacks came after Fox News ran a story about Baltimore and after Cummings criticized the conditions of immigration jails along the Mexican border.

Trump called Cummings a "brutal bully" for criticizing Border Patrol officials about conditions at the southern border.

"There is nothing racist in stating plainly what most people already know, that Elijah Cummings has done a bad job for the people of his district", the president tweeted.

Condemnation followed from Democrats over the weekend, including some of the party's presidential candidates. "When he tweets about infestation, it's about black and brown people", Blackwell said.

Like in his 2016 campaign, Trump has made race front and center while Democrats also grapple with the issue as they seek to select a 2020 presidential nominee from a almost two dozen candidates, including a several racial minorities and women.

Prior to Mr Trump's tweet on Friday, US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer had announced an investigation into the French tax, arguing that France was "unfairly targeting the tax at certain US-based technology companies".
