I want our young bowlers to be match-winners - Malinga

Fast bowler Lasith Malinga retired from One Day International (ODI) cricket today thanking former President Mahinda Rajapaksa for the support he gave which ensured he was able to play longer than expected.

Former worldwide opponents turned franchise team-mates at Mumbai Indians joined in.

Mushfiqur made 67 while Sabbir added 60 as the duo shared an 111-run partnership for the fifth wicket but Bangladesh stuttered to 223 all out in 41.4 overs replying to Sri Lanka's 314 for eight. They lost in all those nine matches but this was their first ODI at this venue in more than ten years.

Representing Sri Lanka in 226 ODI's, Malinga picked up 338 wickets and is the ninth highest wicket taker in the ODI list.

Malinga further said that Bangladeshi bowlers are very lucky to have him in the dug-out.

Bangladesh have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate in Friday's first One-day International against Sri Lanka in Colombo, the International Cricket Council said on Saturday. Also, Malinga is the only bowler with three ODI hat-tricks. "Always admired you and will always continue to do so (sic.)", Bumrah tweeted.

Bumrah and Malinga were teammates at Mumbai Indians, and the Men in Blue death over specialist has always been vocal towards the impact that the veteran has had on him. When I saw Malinga for the first time I realized he has good future and can be a unsafe bowler to any batsman. So, I went there, I got an opportunity to play for his team. "I still remember when he first came into the scene specially, back in Bangladesh people wanted to bowl like him". Rohit revealed that as a captian he would be relaxed during tensed situation as Malinga never failed to deliver whenever situation demanded. "Wishing you all the very best for the future".

Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Mohammad Kaif, Suresh Raina, Manoj Tiwary and RP Singh were among the other Indian cricketers to congratulate the 35 year old on his wonderful career. He has single handedly won many games for Sri Lanka.
