Kamala Harris reports raising almost $12 million in second quarter

Kamala Harris raised roughly $12 million in the past three months, her presidential campaign said Friday, almost a quarter of which she took in after confronting former Vice President Joe Biden during the first Democratic debate.

Biden's halting response to a bruising debate attack on racial issues from rival Kamala Harris, a black US senator from California, has some Democrats in Iowa rethinking their support for the former vice president.

He stressed that people need to "look at his record" for civl rights and added, "I was prepared for them to come after me, but I wasn't prepared for the person coming at me the way she came at me".

The campaign said almost half a million dollars this quarter came from its online store, which sold at least 1,400 "That Little Girl Was Me" T-shirts that feature a photo of Harris as a young school girl.

Former Vice President Joe Biden is not the only 2020 contender to pander by suggesting a female running mate.

However, Mr Biden, who served in that role under Barack Obama, would not say whether he would pick Senator Kamala Harris for the role if he is nominated for the White House.

"You had overwhelming response from the African American community in my state", Biden said of his time as a senator in Delaware.

Since the debate moment, Harris and her campaign have struggled to explain her own position on busing to desegregate schools today. She was bused to school every day. The former vice president said he will hold off going after his opponents' previous positions because he doesn't want the debate between Democrats to be backward looking.

Biden claimed that while there were a few progressive Democrats, like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), with mass appeal who seem to have ushered in a new era of Democratic socialism, the midterm elections were mostly won by moderate Democrats in swing states. "Harris over the weekend or Fourth of July holiday". In the general election fights, who won? According to a recent CNN poll, the California senator's support jumped to 17%, putting her second behind Biden's 22%. He's the bully I knew my whole life.

"I get all this information about other people's past and what they've done and not done, and, you know, I'm just not going to go there", he said. "He's the bully I've always stood up to".

"I believe there should be a woman president right now and we've worked very hard to get one, but we have such a great field of leaders", Booker told Rachel Maddow.

"The fact that we are seeing momentum grow across the country is something I'm very proud of", she said. "The idea that I'd be intimidated by Donald Trump?".
