Former finance minister and BJP leader Arun Jaitley passes away at 66

Jaitley, who has been associated with Indian cricket since the 1990s has also served as the President of the Delhi & District Cricket Association for nearly 14 years and was also a member of the IPL governing council.

The senior leader had undergone renal transplant on 14 May past year with Piyush Goyal filling in for him in the finance ministry.

The news of his death has sent a shockwave in all over the country as the people, as well as the celebs, are mourning the tragic demise.

Following the demise of Jaitley, a master strategist and key troubleshooter for Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government, tributes and condolences started pouring within minutes from across the nation.

CPI general secretary D. Raja said Mr. Jaitley was an easily accessible Minister who would reach out to the Opposition.

He said that BJP and Arun Jaitley Ji had an unbreakable bond.

According to a bulletin put out by the AIIMS, the former Union minister passed away at 12:07 pm today. In his tweets, Modi said Jaitley was admired by people across all sections of society, dding that he was multi-faceted, had impeccable knowledge about India's Constitution, history, public policy, governance and administration.

Chinese envoy in India, Sun Weidong also conveyed his condolences to the departed leader's family members.

Defence minister Rajnath Singh said: "Jaitleyji will always be remembered for pulling the economy out of the gloom and putting it back on the right track". He lived well, leaving us all with innumerable happy memories. Sangeetha and son, Rohan and expressed his condolences.

Modi also recalled his contribution to the BJP.

He got involved in politics as a student leader in the 1970s.
