Netflix Is Producing A He-Man Anime Series

The ruler of Eternia is returning to TV screens by way of Netflix, filmmaker Kevin Smith revealed Sunday in a surprise announcement at the Power-Con convention.

It will focus on some of the unresolved storylines from 1983-1985's He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and will even pick up some characters stories from where they left off in the classic animated television series.

The team of writers that have been assembled for the show include Eric Carrasco (Supergirl), Tim Sheridan (Reign of the Supermen), Diya Mishra (Magic the Gathering) and Marc Bernardin (Alphas).

Executive producer and showrunner Kevin Smith (Mall Rats, Jay and Silent Bob) announced the show at Power-Con 2019.

"'Masters of the Universe' has been a cultural phenomenon for generations, inspiring fans to discover their own power within", vice president of Mattel TV Rob David added.

The original '80s Masters of the Universe series tells the adventures of Prince Adam, heir to the throne of planet Eternia, who uses a magical Power Sword to transform into the warrior He-Man.

He notes that Smith will be working with Powerhouse, the company behind Netflix's Castlevania series.

Smith, meanwhile, has stated that "This is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid" and promised the "most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame". "And Kevin Smith, as a Masters superfan himself, is the ideal champion and partner to expand the canon through a dynamic animated series on Netflix".

Are you excited for the new He-Man series?

Twenty-two-year-old actor Noah Centineo confirmed earlier this year that he has been cast as the musclebound hero in a live action remake of Masters of the Universe.
