Caught on camera: Tesla drives sleeping motorist down Massachusetts Turnpike

Dakota shared the footage on Twitter with the caption: 'Some guy literally asleep at the wheel on the Mass Pike (great place for it).

It wouldn't be the first time a Tesla driver has been caught sleeping behind the wheel. "Teslas are sick, I guess?" he tweeted. Back in May, police in the Netherlands stopped a Tesla driver who appeared to be snoozing behind the wheel. In the passenger's seat, another person appears to be sleeping. The vehicle remained in motion, with the Tesla apparently set to self-driving mode.

The driver of a Tesla on autopilot appeared to be asleep behind the wheel while whizzing along a MA highway, new video shows.

"Current Autopilot features require active driver supervision and do not make the vehicle autonomous", the company's website reads.

The driver was allegedly travelling at a speed of over 90km/h in the U.S. state of MA.

Randall beeped his horn in an effort to wake the slumbering man up, but had no luck.

The video was shot on an interstate highway in Newton, Massachusetts.

Tesla has emphasised their autopilot system shouldn't be used without a fully attentive driver.

The Tesla Autopilot feature is described as an "advanced safety and convenience" feature created to assist with the most 'burdensome parts of driving'.

"At no point did I feel like I was in danger until after the fact, when I thought 'wow, I was just driving next to somebody who was completely asleep on the Mass Pike of all places, like one of the most unsafe roads I can imagine", Randall told WHDH. The auto, he said, stayed at the same speed and "didn't change at all". State police say they're aware of the video.
