Trump ready to meet Iran leader with no conditions: Mnuchin

Washington on Tuesday said it was unacceptable that Iran was not fully cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency's investigation of its nuclear program, but repeated it remained open to talks with Tehran on a "comprehensive deal", Reuters reports.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, standing alongside Mnuchin in the White House briefing room, said "sure" when asked whether Trump could meet Rouhani later this month on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in NY.

"I also stressed the need for Iran to respond promptly to agency questions related to the completeness of Iran's safeguards declarations", Feruta said.

Over the weekend, Iran had put more powerful uranium enrichment centrifuges into operation, a violation against an agreement in the 2015 Vienna Nuclear Accord.

"Whenever Iran speaks of negotiations with the United States, it creates an artificial respiration for (U.S. President Donald) Trump's team, and the Americans think that their political pressure on Iran has been effective", Foad Izadi, expert of global issues, said in an interview.

The level of uranium enrichment was a central point of the Vienna agreement, which was meant to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

The IAEA has confirmed the installation of new centrifuges and said they have been prepared for testing.

Since May, Iran has made two other moves to scale back its obligations under the JCPOA to build stockpiles of nuclear fuel and enrich low-grade uranium to a higher level of purity.

Britain, France, Germany, China, Russia and the European Union have been attempting to salvage the Obama administration-era settlement that limits Iran to working 5,060 older mannequin IR-1 centrifuges.

Iran has said it will negotiate only if Washington lifts the sanctions.

"No problem with meeting".

Macron also has been seeking to arrange a meeting between Trump and Rohani - possible at the upcoming United Nations gathering in NY. However, the United States withdrew unilaterally from the agreement in May 2018. "Iran should straighten out because frankly, they're in a very bad position", he added.
